Forestry Minister Derrick Bragg is offering thanks to firefighters from outside the province who helped with firefighting efforts in the Bay d’Espoir area this summer.
The final group of 20 firefighters and one representative from Nova Scotia wrapped up their 14-day deployment earlier this week.
The personnel were sent home in response to continued improvements in the fire situation in central Newfoundland. Local crews remain at the scene continuing to actively monitor for hotspots.
The Paradise Lake fire is 50 per cent contained while the Bay d’Espoir Highway fire is 70 per cent contained.
The Southern Lake Access Road fire is under control.
Among those who lent a hand during the height of the fires were four water bombers and 15 personnel from Quebec, a Safety Officer from PEI, five personnel from Parks Canada, and a Logistic Section Chief from the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre.
