A long-standing Labour Day tradition is being held in Grand Falls-Windsor tomorrow.
For decades the former paper-making town led the way with some of the biggest Labour Day celebrations in the province.
That dwindled down in recent years for a variety of reasons, not the least of which was the COVID pandemic.

Ron Smith says the response in the community has been great, and the province’s strong labour history needs to celebrated.
He says it dates back to William Coaker and the work he did in creating the Fishermen’s Protective Union. “For some reason,” says Smith, in Newfoundland workers always seem to be the ones, who were taken advantage of more than others, “and unions involved in the workplace changed that.”
The parade will form on Main Street at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow and wind its way through town, ending up with a barbecue at 11:30 a.m. on High Street.
