The union representing workers with the city of Mount Pearl—on strike for the last ten weeks—is defending its right to picket outside the homes of city councillors.
Mount Pearl’s virtual council meeting was interrupted on Monday when picketers on bull horns started shouting outside the home of councillor Isabelle Fry.
The President of CUPE Local 2099, Ken Turner, says secondary picketing is a legal right.
He says they’ve been on the picket line for ten weeks, and “council has not been to city hall… they’re working from home.” He says if they’re not willing to talk to the union, then the union will bring the matter to their homes, “which is where they’re working.”
