The strike in Mount Pearl is over but it will be a few days before facilities and programs are back up and running.
CUPE Local 2099 ratified a new contract yesterday but the return-to-work will be phased in.
Mount Pearl Mayor Dave Aker says the transition back to pre-strike mode will take a little while. For example, a lot of preparatory work has to be done before they can reopen the Glacier.
He says it takes about 7 to 10 days to build up the two ice surfaces. The Summit Centre pool will likely reopen sooner than that but it will take a few days to achieve proper chlorination levels and temperatures.
The last few weeks of the strike turned especially bitter after union members picketed the homes of councilors but CUPE Local 2099 President Ken Turner says none of the workers will face sanction by the city upon their return to work.
He says they ran a good, solid, clean strike campaign with no criminal activity and no damage to equipment.
