The Mayor of Burnt Islands says the community will never be the same.
A State of Emergency remains in place in Burnt Islands where at least a dozen or so homes have been smashed or destroyed by storm surge.
The town is expecting the arrival of Premier Andrew Furey today.
Mayor Alfred Taylor says the town is like a “war zone.”
He says three homes were destroyed and another nine or ten more are damaged to the degree that they are no longer liveable.
Despite the devastation, all residents are safe and accounted for, with those displaced being put up by family and friends.
Taylor says Fox’s Road is blocked off by debris and homes that were washed up onto the road, cutting residents off from the rest of the community.
The priority, says Taylor, is to clean up the road and repair the segments that are washed out to help get the people out of there.
The local store and gas bar is open, but Taylor says the owner has run out of gas for the time being because of demand for generators.
