The RCMP are investigating the death of a 61-year-old man who went overboard on a pilot boat outside St. John’s Harbour early this morning.
Police first received a report of the incident shortly after 12:30.
They say the pilot boat was meeting up with another vessel that was coming into port.
The RNC were initially called in relation to the incident, but the RCMP is now leading the investigation as it has jurisdiction in Canadian territorial waters.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada, Occupational Health and Safety and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner have also been engaged.
