The province and RNC have pledged to implement all recommendations, in principle, flowing from a recent scathing workplace review.
The nine issues identified are at various stages of being addressed, but there’s no firm timeline for completion.
Rather, RNC Deputy Chief Stephanie Lagace says the focus is on doing and getting it right for the benefit of the police force and the public.
The review was initiated in the wake of one conviction and additional allegations of sexual misconduct involving officers.
Justice Minister John Hogan, meanwhile, says while public criticism has been hard on the RNC, they’ve come through when it matters.
He says the outpouring of thanks and compliments from the public in the aftermath of the shootings in CBS was appreciated and is a testament to the overall hard work, expertise, and professionalism of officers.
The review by Ontario lawyer Harriett Lewis found issues with morale, communication, resentment, suspicion of favouritism, and fears of discipline and retribution for making complaints.
A four-person working group from government and the RNC, which already meets regularly, will oversee the implementation of the recommendations.
