Four local men have been recognized for their outstanding contributions to Canadian Blood Services in this province and across Atlantic Canada.
The four received awards in Ottawa, for the 2019 celebration of ‘Honouring Canada’s Lifeline.’
Hasan Hai and Jeff Hillyard accepted an award on behalf of the NL Beard and Moustache Club, for the group’s efforts in holding three blood collection events as well as regularly raising awareness for Canadian Blood Services.
Abdelsalam Abugharara was recognized for his extensive volunteer efforts, which have exceeded hundreds of hours in less than a year. He contributes his time both in-donor centre and in-community. As head of Memorial University’s Muslim Student Association, he has encouraged 30 people to donate.
Meanwhile, Brady Griffin-Hefford was honoured for his efforts in travelling to Nova Scotia twice to become a stem cell donor, all the while working and preparing for his university career.
Canadian Blood Services says these four are an example of those at the ‘heart’ of Canada’s blood system.
