A collision captured on dashcam video is making the rounds on social media after a young person brought traffic to a screeching halt in Paradise on the weekend.

The dirt bike driver is lucky to be alive as the situation could have been far worse.

Sheldon Benoit posted the footage to Paradise Community Facebook page, showing a young person riding a dirt-bike attempting to cross four lanes of traffic. The bike enters the roadway as traffic whizzes by, and gets a slight bump by a pickup truck before stopping, narrowly avoiding another truck travelling at a much faster speed. Benoit’s vehicle comes to a stop as the driver slams on the brakes but gets rear-ended.

In his post, Benoit says his wife was driving him, his four-year-old daughter, and his elderly parents when the incident occurred. According to Benoit, they were checked out at the Health Sciences Centre and the Janeway, along with two people in the car behind them.

The young person on the dirt bike reportedly fled the scene before police arrived.
