The first municipalities in the province have adopted their own codes of conduct on the heels of new laws which allow them to do so.
The new Municipal Conduct Act officially came into effect in September, governing such things as conflict of interest, ethical behaviour and professional conduct.
Towns have six months from the date of implementation to develop their own codes of conduct based on the new regulations.
Municipal Affairs Minister Krista Lynn Howell says Pouch Cove was the first to develop a code of conduct.
She says the department is holding a series of information sessions this fall for municipalities and councillors to learn more about the requirements.
