A Gander woman who was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson’s at the age of 42 says boxing and goat therapy have made her stronger and are helping to alleviate some of her symptoms.
Koren Snow noticed a tremor in her finger when she was 38, but it wasn’t until four years later that she was formally diagnosed with the neurological disease.
Parkinson’s, for which there is no known cure, results in tremors, stiffness and a lack of balance and coordination.
Snow, a nurse practitioner, had to give up her practice due to the deterioration of fine motor skills, but says she found physical benefits after being introduced to the Rock Steady Boxing Program and an exercise program with goats.
Snow also credits her personal trainer, Nathan Layte with tailoring workouts to her needs. She says she wouldn’t be where she is today without him.
Animal therapy is really beneficial and spending time walking with the goats is something she enjoys.
