The Opposition House Leader says questions he put to Premier Andrew Furey in the House of Assembly last week have nothing to do with a fishing trip but everything to do with following procedure.
Furey spent time at a fishing lodge in the summer of 2021 which was owned by his friend John Risley, one of the main proponents behind a major wind and hydrogen development proposed for the southwest coast.
Barry Petten says the Premier’s response centred around the ability to take downtime and spend it how and with whom he wishes, but Petten says there’s a larger issue at play.
He says that Andrew Furey is premier 365 days a year, and he wants to know if proper procedures were followed.
Petten admits, he wasn’t entirely comfortable with the line of questioning at first, but changed his mind after hearing the responses, or lack of responses, which he says led him to believe “there’s more to this story than we’re actually being told.”
