The City of St. John’s has received a financial boost to help plant some 100 trees in various areas around the city.
The city received the $25,000 grant from Tree Canada and CN Rail as part of the EcoConnexions – From the Ground Up Program.
As a result, 100 new trees have been planted in Brookfield Road Park, Kelly’s Brook Park, Kitty Gaul Park, and Quidi Vidi Park.
As well, the city also held a special tree planting ceremony in Bowring Park.
Mayor Danny Breen says the work helps to replenish urban forests in the city.
He says as the city deals with climate change, reforestation is an important part of their mitigation and reduction plans.
