A sporting organization in metro is asking for help as it tries to give 16 Ukrainian families an opportunity on the ice.
The Celtics, who play out of DF Barnes Arena on Penneywell Road, will be accepting used hockey equipment at the arena today and tomorrow.
Tracy Hayley, a member of the association, says they did a similar drive for Syrian families a few years ago. Back then, some of them couldn’t speak English and didn’t know a thing about hockey; now they know all facets of the game such as off-side, icing, etc.
Hayley says they will also accept monetary donations if people do not have used equipment but wish to help.
Drop-off times at the area are today from 10 – 5 and Sunday from 9 – 11 and 2 – 5.
