One Hollywood star is speaking up about the importance of preserving the ocean ecosystem and fishing industry in Canada and especially in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Actor Sam Waterston, known for his role as Jack McCoy on Law and Order and most recently his work on the hit Netflix show Grace and Frankie, is involved in an Oceana Canada conference on rebuilding and preserving the fishing industry.
“The #FisheriesAct gives @FishOceansCAN legal responsibility for restoring #fisheries to health & regulations give that law teeth. They hold a promise of restoring the 2/3 of fish populations that urgently need it.” – Sam Waterston, Oceana Board of Directors #RebuildAbundance22 pic.twitter.com/HvGUVYsp0d

Actor Ted Danson recommended Waterston become a member of Oceana after the collapse of the commercial cod fishery in the 1990s. Since then, Waterston has been vocal about the importance of protecting the ocean ecosystem and preserving the fishing industry.
He says Canada is moving in the right direction with the Fisheries Act, which requires the rebuilding of depleted fisheries.
He says the Fisheries Act is a key to an abundant ocean, which promotes the economic well-being of fishing communities in this province. Waterston says this is the first step to assuring that Canadians have access to seafood for years to come.
