NDP Leader Jim Dinn says a human resources plan is missing from the provincial government’s recent healthcare recruitment and retention announcements.
On Thursday, the province announced supports for CUPE and the Association of Allied Health Professionals including retention bonuses, reimbursement of licensing fees for applicable retired healthcare professionals and double rate overtime from now until the end of January to help fill schedules.
Dinn applauds the measures, but says without a longer-term plan, issues healthcare workers are facing will not be addressed.
He says healthcare workers have been sounding the alarm about workload and exhaustion even before COVID struck, and there still isn’t a comprehensive human resources plan in place.
