More flooding in Port Aux Basques, treacherous driving on the roads and highway, and power outages from St. John’s to Corner Brook.
The remnants of tropical storm Nicole are making themselves felt on the island of Newfoundland.
While a power outage in Mount Pearl was not immediately blamed on the storm, ice on the lines at Gallants, Spruce Brook, George’s Lake and Pinchgut Lake, was.
In total, about 2,000 customers were without power as of 6 p.m. Saturday.
Meanwhile, police are pleading with drivers to keep speeds down and be extra vigilant given the near zero-visibility on the roads in the dark and rain.
Traffic lights on the main thoroughfare of Kenmount Road in St. John’s, alongside the packed Avalon Mall, were also out in places, adding to the risk.
The heavy rain, freezing rain, ice pellets and snow are expected to continue into the evening before moving off by morning.
