The two people accused of stealing almost $10,000 worth of fancy fragrances from several Shoppers Drug Marts plan to plead guilty to the offences.
The 29-year-old man, Cristines Bacelan, and 24-year-old woman, Elisabeta Cimpina, both from Romania, face 12 charges in total, including thefts over and under $5,000.
They were arrested aboard a Marine Atlantic ferry in Port aux Basques shortly before it was due to leave two weeks ago.
RCMP obtained a search warrant for their vehicle, which was removed from the vessel, and recovered the pricey perfumes.
The pair has been in custody since their arrest, making appearances in Gander court by phone and virtual means—Bacelan from HMP in St. John’s and Cimpina at the women’s correctional centre in Clarenville.
Court was told today that the matter will proceed by speedy disposition on Friday afternoon, which would see guilty pleas entered and sentences handed down at the same time.
