Newfoundland and Labrador says goodbye to one of its oldest veterans today.
The funeral for Charles “Charlie” John Starkes, who passed away on Friday at the age of 100, takes place this afternoon.
Born in 1922 in Greenspond, Bonavista Bay, Starkes would go on to fight in World War II, serving with the Royal Navy on North Sea convoy duty, and during the Battle of Normandy.
The funeral takes place at 2:00 p.m. at First United Church.
