St. John’s City Council is awaiting a recommendation from the sustainability and active mobility committee before making a decision on a shared-use path for Canada Drive in Cowan Heights.
A plan to construct an active transportation route on Canada Drive has been ongoing since 2019. Two options were put forward to residents, with a recommendation to develop a shared-use bike path.
The path would allow both cyclists and pedestrians to use the same lane, without affecting on-street parking.
Ward councillor Jamie Korab says the sustainability and active mobility committee will review the recommendation before a decision is made by council.
Korab says the dedicated lane would be moved away from traffic as well as the installation of a high back.
A final decision is expected in the coming weeks.
