The town of Harbour Grace has released a development plan for its Heritage District along with an Adaptive Reuse Plan for Ridley Hall.
The plan, developed by Heritage NL, proposes three walking routes to take residents and visitors through some of the town’s most noteworthy heritage features. They include the Historic Laneways Walk, the Harbour Walk and the Shipyard Walk.
The plan proposes some changes to the town’s historic laneways including gateways, guideposts and interpretive signage as opposed to the natural look of the current lanes.
Meanwhile, the plan proposes to maintain Ridley Hall as a ruin. The historic building was already in a serious state of disrepair when fire nearly destroyed what was left of it in the early 1990s. The plan proposes that the ruin would be a unique attraction for visitors. It also suggests building a so-called ghost structure around the building to outline its previous profile.
Public comment on the plan is due by December 6.
