Officials continue their search for new foster families to care for children in need of a safe, comfortable home while they wait to be reunited with their parents.
This is National Foster Families Month.
Executive Director of the Foster Families Association of Newfoundland and Labrador, Diane Malloy says there are currently 580 foster families in the province and close to 1,000 children in care.
Malloy told VOCM Morning Show co-host Gerri Lynn Mackey says they need more families on the list.
She says if a group of siblings come into care, the ideal situation is that they stay together, and remain in their home community.
Edie Newton is a foster parent who has fostered 21 children. She calls it a challenging and rewarding experience.
She says providing a home for children waiting to be reunited with their parents is “tremendous.”
