A doctor who provides virtual care says hundreds of patients are being refused care due to the daily cap on the number of patients a physician is allowed to treat.
Dr. Todd Young of Main Street Medical in Springdale established the Medicuro virtual care service. While he’s seen an increase in use of the service since the pandemic, many people are being turned away as doctors are limited to 40 patients daily.
He says, with the increase in respiratory illness, there has been an increased demand for the virtual model.
Young says over 700 patients were unable to avail of Medicuro because each physician had reached their daily cap. He says it’s frustrating when they know there is a demand for health care.
The doctor says the restrictions limit the number of people they can see.
He believes if the cap was removed and doctors could see more patients, the public would feel more reassured about health care services in the province.
