A coalition has been formed to address increased violence in the capital city’s downtown.
The Downtown Safety Coalition was formed following a series of meetings over the summer involving Downtown St. John’s, the George Street Association, the City of St. John’s, Destination St. John’s, Hospitality NL, the RNC, Music NL and the provincial government.
Local musicians have been vocal in recent months about the changing nature of the downtown and how some don’t feel safe on the street when leaving gigs.
The Downtown Safety Coalition is hoping to host an information session early in the new year on ways to address what it calls the complex issue of safety in downtown St. John’s.
