The Mayor of Corner Brook says it was important for the city to avoid increasing the mil rate.
The city tabled Budget 2023 last night, which included no increase in the mil rate for residents.
Jim Parsons says like everywhere else, their costs are increasing.
This was a reassessment year with property values up by an average of five per cent, which translates into an increase in the amount of tax some people will pay.
He says they are feeling the pinch, but so are residents, especially with the rising cost of living, fuel prices, and property assessment rate. He’s hoping that by not increasing the mil rate, they kept the impact on residents to a minimum.
