The province’s offshore regulator has approved the resumption of drilling operations on the Transocean Barents after a workplace accident that sent one man to hospital with serious injuries.
The Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board has approved Suncor’s plan to resume operations on the drilling unit.
A young man was sent to hospital on September 6 after he got caught between a rail and a steel adapter weighing 1,400 kg during crane operations.
Workers were preparing to secure operations prior to the arrival of the remnants of Hurricane Dorian at the time.
Work was suspended while an investigation was conducted.
The worker was treated and released from hospital, but was recently readmitted and is currently being monitored.
