Students at Phoenix Academy in Carmanville say they’re hopeful their un-usable playground can be fixed up after their mini-documentary on the subject started grabbing the attention of people around the province.
The creative video features interviews with staff and students, as well as a rap to draw attention to the state of the neglected space.
Haley Diamond and Marcus Wheaton are two of the grade 11 students behind the project, which they say started at the suggestion of their English teacher as a way to bring attention to the issue.
Diamond says the whole class came together for the initiative, with Wheaton noting that other students and staff were “mind blown” at the finished product.
The video has gone much further than just the walls of Phoenix Academy, and both students can’t believe the video has been able to reach so many people.
Diamond says they’re hopeful the playground will be repaired.
She believes the video will spark reaction from the community and get more people interested in how to help.
