Tax increases are in the offing in Mount Pearl as the city tabled its 2023 budget.
Residents will see the mil rate jump from 7.1 to 7.7 for residential properties while the commercial rate will increase from 11.5 to 12.4.
The $56.1 million budget sees no increases in water, sewer and waste disposal fees.
For businesses, occupancy tax rates will increase by 8 percent for all categories, with the general commercial rate increasing from 16.8 to 18.1 mils.
The city is planning for infrastructure improvements with $500,000 being earmarked for an additional 1,700 hours of contracted snow clearing.
The city is also putting money towards recreational and outdoor facilities such as playgrounds, trails and the Summit Centre.
An additional $445,000 is being set aside for upgrades to the Team Gushue Sportsplex ahead of the 2025 Canada Games.
Despite rumours of potential layoffs, Mayor Dave Aker says no layoffs have been put forward, and there are no plans to make any job cuts in the future.
