The City of St. John’s has increased spending in the 2023 budget for snow clearing on streets and sidewalks.
Finance Lead for Council, Ron Ellsworth, says this year, pedestrian intersections were identified as being problematic for the sidewalk snow clearing the city was already doing.
He says those intersections and some staircases throughout the city are the main targets. Ellsworth says there isn’t much sense in having a walkway cleared if you can’t use the stairs.
St. John’s is looking at spending on snow clearing for 2024. The capital budget will be done after Christmas and Ellsworth says they will be looking at acquiring more equipment to increase the level of service again.
