Marathon Gold and a number of other companies in central Newfoundland are making a significant donation to the local food bank.

The mining company, which operates a gold mining project near Valentine Lake, is giving $30,750 to the Grand Falls-Windsor/Bishop’s Falls Food Bank and as part of a new initiative.

The money was raised by Marathon Gold and 22 of their major supplies and service providers. A cheque was presented to the food bank today.

Tim Williams, Chief Operating Officer at Marathon Gold. says giving back to the community is a major part of their mandate.

He says they use local companies, supplies, and service providers and employ locally when they can.
