A 25-year-old Deer Lake man is facing charges related to a house fire in the town yesterday morning.

RCMP were called around 7:00 Wednesday morning where a man was seen pouring gasoline over areas of a home. Police say several areas of the home—which was occupied at the time—were damaged by fire including windows, doorways and siding with smoke damage caused to the interior.

Police tracked the suspect down with the help of Police Service Dog Thor and his handler where he was arrested at his home.

Kyle Squires is facing charges of arson with disregard for human life, arson causing damage to property, uttering threats against a property and mischief over $5,000.
