Sue Smith, a Butterball Turkey Talk Line expert, says they get calls each year with a variety of concerns, whether it be from someone who forgot to defrost their bird or a first-time chef.

Smith says the best piece of advice she can provide is to have the proper cooking utensils.

She recommends people invest in a meat thermometer to take out any of the guesswork so you don’t end up with an under or overcooked meal.
