A town outside the St. John’s metro and Corner Brook regions is going to institute a public transit system.
Memorial University recently launched a campus in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, and that’s one of the reasons why the town is going with public bussing. Mayor George Andrews says they’re going with an electric bus to ride the route from the lower part of the valley to the airport.
That’s phase one of the project—phase two calls for an expansion of the fare-based system to North West River and Sheshatshiu.
The university is expected to have about 200 students and many people in the town do not have vehicles. Mayor Andrews hopes for a late spring or early summer launch.
