People in the Placentia area are breathing a sigh of relief after two men were taken into custody following nearly 12 hours of high drama in Dunville.

The incident began unfolding early Christmas Eve morning as residents heard what they believed to be shots. People who were in their homes on Ville Marie Drive were told to stay inside and the general public was told to stay away from the area.

The RCMP, in full riot gear, descended on the area with megaphones and heavy firepower.

The situation finally broke early in the afternoon with the arrest of two men.

Several residents contacted VOCM News over the course, describing a turf war and telling of how criminal activity in the area has increased over the past six months or so. They wish to see a heavier police presence in the area.
