The MHA for Bonavista feels that it’s time for government to look a little deeper into some monetary numbers as it pertains to doctors in our healthcare system.
The hospital in the town is often under a diversionary approach, which means patients needing emergency attention go to Clarenville. However, several residents rally outside every day to draw attention to the shortcomings. MHA Craig Pardy says it’s not a protest—just a peaceful rally. He dropped in on the line last week and listened to what they had to say.
Pardy wonders if the use of locums to replace full-time doctors for short periods is financially wise.
People in the area believe that over the past while, a total of three doctors wished to stay on the Bonavista Peninsula but could not agree on salary terms. Bringing in locums can present more expensive issues such as travel and accommodations, says the Tory MHA.
