Two men have been charged with attempted murder following early-morning gunfire and subsequent takedown in Dunville over the Christmas weekend.
Police have yet to confirm any injuries, but numerous sources tell VOCM News that one man is being treated in hospital for a gunshot wound.
Shane Cochrane and Shane Spurvey both face charges of attempted murder with a firearm, aggravated assault, two counts of assault with a weapon, as well as breaking and entering in the commission of an indictable offence.
Cochrane faces additional charges of fleeing from police, dangerous driving, impaired driving, refusing the breathalyzer, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, resisting or obstructing an officer, and speeding more than 50 kilometres an hour over the limit.
The incident unfolded around 3 a.m. Saturday morning with initial reports of gunshots sending RCMP officers to the Thorne Street trailer park area of the town, and police asking residents to remain inside and everyone else to avoid the area.
A few hours later, police confirmed an operation was underway in Dunville, with the Mounties’ tactical unit focusing on a residence on Ville Marie Drive, and this time ordering residents to remain inside and others to stay away from the scene.
Then, shortly before 2 p.m., police advised they arrested two men and the public could resume normal activities.
Cochrane and Spurvey made initial court appearances in St. John’s on Christmas Day.
Their matters have been moved to Harbour Grace provincial court for bail hearings on Wednesday.
