Premier Andrew Furey is reflecting on some of the biggest challenges that the province faced over the course of 2022.
Furey reminds that one year ago the province was in the midst of the omicron wave that forced lockdowns at the beginning of the year, and then there was the issue of supply chain problems that were caused by the war in Ukraine about a month after that.
On top of that, Furey cites the issues facing the energy sector coming out of the pandemic but notes that there was some turnaround with West White Rose being moved back into the construction phase, and Bay du Nord finding a path forward.
In the latter half of the year, Furey says the cost of living and healthcare issues took precedence.
Specifically talking about healthcare, he says the system was strained long before the pandemic, but that situation highlighted and accelerated the issues. He says that has been the top priority for government coming out of the pandemic.
