The PC leadership campaign is expected to ramp up in the new year. St. John’s Mayor Danny Breen’s name has been floated around as a potential candidate, but he says he is currently focused on his role with the city.
Breen has been involved with the PC Party before—he ran in the 2014 by-election for the district of Virginia Waters, but lost by 40 votes to Liberal Cathy Bennett.
When asked if he is thinking about running for the party’s top job, Breen never directly answered yes or no, only to say that he is fully focused on the issues facing the city.
Breen says he enjoys his job as mayor and the work that he and other members of council are doing. He says there are some big challenges facing the city, and “that’s where I’m focused right now.”
