So far this year the 100 best paid CEOs in the country have already made what the average worker can hope to make in the entire year. That’s according to “Breakfast of Champions,” a new report from the Canadian Center for Policy Alternatives.
CCPA’s Senior Economist David Macdonald says the richest CEOs would have made $60,000 by 9:43 a.m. the morning of January 3, hence the moniker “breakfast of champions.”
McDonald says that’s a new all-time high with the top CEOs making 243 times what the average worker earns.
Interestingly, this comes amid high inflation which has resulted in a two per cent cut in pay for the average worker.
CEOs saw a 26 per cent increase in their earnings in 2021 because, according to McDonald, of corporate profits. Corporations see inflation as a one-time opportunity to raise prices and profits.
