Senior hockey returns to the west coast this weekend for the first time in a couple of years. Three teams are in the mix: Port aux Basques, Corner Brook and Deer Lake.
Darren Colbourne, one of the organizers, says they had hoped to get started sooner but it’s a major drive to reorganize a senior hockey league. The puck drops Saturday night in Corner Brook.
Colbourne says they had hoped for a fourth team based in Stephenville but it didn’t materialize, at least not this season.
He hopes to have four, maybe even five teams, in the fold for next year.
Each team will play 12 games plus playoffs.
