A 14-year-old MacDonald Drive Junior High student who has been turning heads in the local hockey community will make his professional broadcasting debut this evening at the Mary Brown’s Centre in St. John’s.
Seth Hyde has been in high demand of late, calling games for the Avalon Celtics, Pinnacle Growlers and the Bigs Avalon Junior Caps.
When he was younger, he would be in his basement with his hockey stick and pretend he was Sidney Crosby. He emailed the Celtics about broadcasting and it took off from there.
He was named as a member of the NHL’s Power Players Youth Advisory Board in November.
Hyde will call the game alongside mentor and Growlers broadcaster Chris Ballard tonight at 7:00.
