Lewisporte RCMP are advising that Route 340 in Campbellton has re-opened.

Residents can expect an increased police presence as the investigation continues.

Police are expected to provide an update on the incident on Sunday.

RCMP remain tight-lipped regarding an incident in the town of Campbellton today.

The first sign of trouble came shortly after 7 a.m. this morning, with police advising that the main road through the community, Route 340, was closed due to an ongoing investigation.

That was followed by an update around 10:30 a.m. to say the road was still blocked and would remain that way for several hours but that there was no concern for public safety.

An RCMP spokesperson says updates will be provided as soon as they are available from officers at the scene.

Campbellton is about 10 kms north of Lewisporte on the north-central coast of the island.
