The SPCA in Happy Valley-Goose Bay is in a “crisis period” after a massive influx of dogs on the weekend.
The organization rescued 35 dogs, most of them new puppies, in less than 24 hours.
Happy Valley-Goose Bay SPCA Vice President Bonnie Learning says they’re figuring out how to house the dogs, utilizing fosters and boarding kennels, as well as other SPCAs on the island where they can transfer the dogs.
She says they could see this situation coming.
Generally, they have busy periods for a few weeks, and then a few calm weeks. This year, Learning says they have been going steady since the summer and knew they would reach a crisis level.
She says if people outside of Happy Valley-Goose Bay wish to help transport a kennel, they can contact her, and she can arrange for them to be shipped to a nearby airport.
