A 32-year-old man from Happy Valley-Goose Bay is facing a number of serious charges following an assault at a home in the town early on the morning of Tuesday, January 10.
Police received multiple reports of a violent disturbance at the property. RCMP say Johnathan Newman is alleged to have assaulted a man with a weapon, and forcibly confined a woman inside the home.
Police found evidence of a violent altercation at the scene.
By the time police arrived, a man had already been taken to hospital in Happy Valley-Goose Bay for treatment. The man was later transferred to the Health Sciences in St. John’s with what police are calling serious injuries.
Newman was arrested on Wednesday. He’s been charged with aggravated assault, assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon, forcible confinement and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
