RCMP arrested two men, believed responsible for a recent cabin break-in in the Middle Gull Pond area thanks, in large part, to the vigilance of a local cabin owner.
Police were contacted by a cabin owner around 2 p.m. yesterday afternoon. The cabin owner described footprints in the snow tracked to the door of a cabin that had been forced open and a number of items from inside sitting in the snow, presumably ready for pick up.
Responding officers then received an update from the cabin owner who was following a suspicious ATV that drove past the property and refused to stop when he tried to flag it down.
Thanks to information received from the cabin owner, police set up a road block and stopped the ATV. Police say the two people on the machine were found in possession of stolen property and were arrested. Twenty-four-year-old Keegan Seymour, who is already before the courts on a number of criminal charges, was arrested and remanded in custody for a court appearance on charges of break and enter and possession of stolen property.
The driver of the ATV, also 24-years-old, showed signs of drug impairment according to RCMP. Police are awaiting the results of testing to determine if charges of impaired driving are appropriate. The man’s licence was suspended and the ATV seized and impounded. The accused has been released pending charges of possession of stolen property.
Police later seized two long guns from another cabin where property suspected to be stolen from the break in was being stored. The investigation is continuing, but no further charges are anticipated.
