A class action lawsuit on behalf of survivors of sexual abuse at Newfoundland Training Schools is going ahead.
The Supreme Court has certified the suit, which was filed on behalf of three representative plaintiffs who suffered abuse at homes in Pleasantville, Whitbourne and Waterford Bridge Road.
The certification means the case will move forward as class action, which lawyers at Morris Martin Moore call a “major procedural hurdle.”
According to the suit, sexual abuses were committed by employees, priests and sometimes older children at the homes.
Lawyer Lynn Moore says while the lawsuit will never undo the harm or take away the pain, it brings them closer to getting compensation for victims.
