Tributes are continuing to pour in for long-time St. John’s businessman Bernie Halloran who passed away following a lengthy illness early Friday morning.
Premier Andrew Furey called Halloran, the owner of Always in Vogue, a champion of the local sealing industry and a great hockey player.
A champion for the local sealing industry, a fierce Newfoundlander and Labradorian, and a great hockey player I was lucky to play with. Bernie Halloran was the spirit of hope and optimism.

PC Party Leader David Brazil says Halloran was an important contributor to the party for many years, and even during his illness, he made himself available to the party.
Former Premier Danny Williams called Halloran a good friend and a nice guy who always had a positive outlook and did a lot to help others.
One woman left a message for VOCM News highlighting how Halloran supported the residents of St. Luke’s Homes in a variety of ways, including providing items for an annual fashion show put off by residents.
Meanwhile, the wake and funeral will take place later next week.
Visitation is set for Carnell’s Funeral Home on Wednesday and Thursday, with the funeral for family and close friends to be held at the chapel on Friday at 11 a.m., which can also be viewed online.
A celebration of Halloran’s life will take place afterward at Glendenning Golf Course starting at 4 p.m.
