Despite harrowing forecasts, Port aux Basques navigated the messy weekend weather relatively unscathed.
Friday started with some heavy snowfall, however that was followed up by freezing rain and rain, undoing most of the troubles caused by accumulation. Mayor Brian Button said they expected heavier rain, but that eventually tapered off.
Infrastructure seems to have emerged undamaged.
Button says anytime the forecast shows high winds and a lot of precipitation, the community tenses.
He says since Hurricane Fiona, whenever there’s a bad forecast the community has much more anxiety around how they are going to fair.
