The Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers association has launched a new campaign to draw attention to issues surrounding recruitment, retention and resources of teachers in our schools.
The “Hidden Reality” campaign aims to highlight vacancies, a lack of substitute teachers and other issues inside the walls of a school.
NLTA President Trent Langdon says what parents might not be able to see essentially comes down to reduced service.
He says teachers are doing the best with what they have, but with guidance counsellors, reading specialists and instructional resource teachers being moved around to cover other shortages, teachers can only do so much to keep things moving.
NL needs a comprehensive strategy to attract and keep certified teachers. Our schools are dealing with a hidden reality that parents don’t always see. This week, the @NLTeachersAssoc will be sharing the some of the input from our members who are seeing it all. #HiddenRealityNL pic.twitter.com/U8FdDdRM1Z
