Police have confirmed that a man has been charged with vandalizing property owned by Colin Way in the Outer Battery area of St. John’s.
The 32-year-old suspect, who was not named, is accused of kicking in a door and trying to take down two of the very bright lights that have been at the centre of a dispute with neighbours.
The incident occurred around 1:20 this morning, and while bolts were loosened on the lights, they were not taken down.
Police responded but the suspect had left the area before they arrived.
It’s believed the man was later arrested in the area of Cabot Avenue.
He’s facing charges of trespassing at night and damage to property.
He was released on conditions pending a court date.
The city is relying on a legal opinion that says its hands are tied when it comes to resolving the dispute.
